Q.  How is YogaLab different from other Minneapolis studios?

A.  Our mission is to make yoga accessible to people in our community: we are affordable, low-key, and open to everyone.  Since we are based right in the heart of Northeast Minneapolis' Arts District, we are frequented by local artists, musicians, and people who live in the neighborhood (and a dedicated few who regularly cross town to come to classes).  Our space is a photography studio by day, so the studio is not your typical yoga studio space: you can expect hardwood floors, explosed bricks and beams, and creaking floorboards from the surrounding studios.  We bypass the fancy yoga frills (mat service, props collection, etc.)  in order to keep costs low, and the result is a space that is warm, inviting, colorful, and fun.

Character, comfort, and community... that's what sets us apart.

Exploration, acceptance, positivity... that's what we are all about.

Q.  What if I've never been to a yoga class before?

A.  Not a problem- our classes are designed for all levels and we emphasize that all stages are a great place to be. We describe each pose as we move through the practice, so you'll always know what to do.  If you're able, it might be a good idea to arrive a bit early for your first class so you can introduce yourself, ask any questions you may have, and get a basic run-down of what to expect.  Another thing to consider: everyone else there will be so into what they're doing on their own mat, that they won't even think to look at what you're doing.

Q.  What should I wear?

A.  Comfortable clothes that you can move in, and layers are always a good idea.  Shoes are not an issue since most people practice in their bare feet.  If you have long hair, you may want to bring a hair tie or headband.

Q.  Do I need to bring a mat?

A. We do advise that you bring a mat with you.  If you don't have a mat or if you forget yours, we usually have extras to use (but it's not guaranteed).  Feel free to bring and use any props you like.

Q.  Anything else?

A.  Bring a water bottle if you can, and be sure to stay hydrated well after the class is over.  Oh, and a sense of humor will also help!
